A product of
Thurstan College, Colombo, Upali Senaka Samarasinghe, The
Secretary General/CEO of the Chamber is a professional banker
who retired from the banking sector after 35 years unbroken
service.
He started his banking career with the state owned Bank of
Ceylon way back in 1968 where he served in operational division
for 13 years. He was invited to join the Saudi British Bank
(HSBC Group) in 1981 where he served for 8 years as a staff
officer.
Sampath Bank Ltd at its inception invited
him to function as Deputy Manager, Finance in 1988 and having
accepted the offer her served the bank for 15 years heading
their Finance Division, Operations Division and Marketing
Division at different times with distinction until his retirement
in the year 2002.
Mr Upali Samarasinghe is a member of the
Charted Institute of Bankers. He has also successfully completed
a Management Programme (MDP) with Asian Institute of Management
(AIM) Manila, Philippines.
A keen social worker, Mr Samarasinghe is
a past District Governor and a Past Council Chairman of Lions
Clubs international, Multiple District 306, Sri Lanka. His
contribution to social welfare was duly acknowledged by the
Government of Sri Lanka when he was conferred with the Justice
of the Peace (All Island) in year 1999. He also functions
as the Deputy Chairman of National Hospital Committee, Colombo
and as Director/Treasurer of the Hope Cancer Hospital Project.
He joined the CNCI in April 2003 and directs its services/operations
successfully as the Chief Executive Officer. |
