At the Business Sessions of 45th Annual General Meeting
of the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries held on 29th
August 2006, Mr A K Ratnarajah was elected as the Chairman
for the fiscal year 2006/2007. Mr Ratnarajah joined the
Ceylon National Chamber of Industries in 1995 and elevated
to the office of Deputy Chairman in 2004. He is the Founder
Chairman/Managing Director of Ceylon Tapes (Pvt) Ltd., a
pioneering Company manufacturing a range of Adhesive Tapes
established in 1991.
Mr. A. K. Ratnarajah started his career from the State Sector
as the General Manager in the Power loom Projects. Thereafter
he served the Industrial Development Board as the Deputy
Director – Coordination.
After a significant contribution to the State Sector Mr
Ratnarajah moved to the Private Sector serving the KG Group
of Companies as a Group Director. At the same time he functioned
as the Finance Director of Singalanka Standard Chemicals
Ltd., a Public Quoted Company with foreign collaboration
in the manufacture of heavy Chemicals.
After his election as Chairman at The 45th Annual General
Meeting, addressing the members of CNCI Mr. Ratnarajah stated
that during his Chairmanship he will be concentrating on
helping the member companies to become world class industry
by assisting and encouraging them to seek markets for their
products in the SAARC Region, especially those countries
with whom Sri Lanka has Free Trade Agreements. As an initial
step he is planning to organise a delegation through CNCI
at the end of this year to visit Business Chambers of SAARC
Countries to reinforce the business relationships. He is
also focusing on strengthening relationships of CNCI with
other Trade and Business Chambers in Sri Lanka and aboard
by working more closely with them.
Furthermore, Mr. Ratnarajah will lay emphasis on organising
series of discussions, seminars and consultancy services
etc. on subjects such as conservation of power, productivity
improvement, communication, environmental matters, health
and safety, application of 5S Japanese Management Techniques
etc.
Mr Ratnarajah is a B.Sc Degree holder as well as a Fellow
of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Being
a keen social worker, Mr Ratnarajah was an active member
of Lions at the District Cabinet Level of the International
Association of Lions Clubs. The Government of Sri Lanka
conferring him with Justice of Peace (All Island) duly acknowledged
his contribution to social welfare. He is also a member
of the Task Force on Small and Medium Enterprise Development
and a member of JICA Committee to prepare a National Plan
for Industries. Currently he is also the Deputy President
of Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging and the Sectoral Chairman
for the Packaging Sector of CNCI.
